Asaba, Aug. 2, 2018 (NAN) Nigerian sprinter Joy Udo-Gabriel on Thursday said there was still room for improvement in her performances, in spite of winning a bronze medal at the ongoing 21st Africa Senior Athletics Championships.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Udo-Gabriel finished third in a time of 11.58 seconds in the women’s 100m event in Asaba.
Marie-Josee Ta Lou of Cote d’Ivoire had won the event’s gold medal in a time of 11.15 secs, while Ghanaian Janet Amponsah came second in a time of 11.54 secs.
Udo-Gabriel told NAN she was okay with the outcome of the race because she had competed with the best on the continent.
“This is a good one for me and it shows that I am a `work in progress’ by sharing the podium with the likes of Ta Lou.
“I am improving day by day and I am happy winning my first African Championships medal here in Asaba,” she said.
The 18-year-old bronze medalist said her next target at the championships was to win the gold medal for the country in the women’s 4x100m relays.
