Lagos, Nov. 16, 2016 (NAN) Two security guards, Abdulsalam Mohammed, 30, and Julius Fase, 39, were on Wednesday arraigned in Lagos for allegedly stealing cable wires valued at N750,000.
The duo are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing before Magistrate Alexander Komolafe of the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The accused, were alleged to have committed the offence on Nov. 9.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Joseph Ajebe, said that the offence was committed at about 6.30 p.m., at Westmant Company located at Odogunyan, Ikorodu, Lagos.
Ajebe told the court that the accused who were night guards were caught by the company’s Managing Director, Mr Westmart and a staff.
“The accused were caught while in the process of carting away the cable out of the company premises with intension to sell. The complainant alleged that the accused are fond of stealing cable wires from the company.
“He said that the accused had stolen wires before from the company, but apologised and promised not to do so again. But when they were caught recently stealing cable wires, the accused were handed over to the police,’’ he said.
The offences contravened Section 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that section 285 stipulates three years imprisonment for convicted offenders.
The magistrate granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 each with two responsible sureties each in the like sum.
Komolafe said that the sureties must show evidence of genuine means of being gainfully employed and adjourned the case until Dec. 5, for mention. (NAN)
