Break-in

Lagos, July 31, 2018 (NAN) Two men, who allegedly broke into NEPA residential quarters and stole mobile phones and laptops worth N295,000, were on Tuesday arraigned before Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat in Lagos.
The accused are Adegbola Adeniyi, 24, a surveyor who lives at Ibafo area of Ogun and Samuel Adebiyi, 22, a bricklayer, and a resident of Badagry in Lagos State.
The accused are standing trial on a three-count charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The prosecutor, Insp. Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the accused broke into the residence of Ogundele Wakilu, and stole three phones and six HP laptops, all valued at N295,000.
Emuerhi said that the accused committed the offences on May 12 at 2.00 p.m., at NEPA Quarters, Abule-Era, Ijanikin area of Lagos.
“They broke into the residence of the complainant by attacking the security guards with machetes and stole the items,” he said.
Emuerhi said that the duo was arrested by some policemen at Ijanikin.
The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 287, 307 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes a three-year jail term for stealing, while Section 307 stipulates 15 years for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The magistrate granted the accused N50,000 bail each with two sureties each in like sum.
Chief magistrate Sule-Amzat insisted that the sureties must be gainfully employed in reputable companies and should have properties in Lagos.
She added that the sureties should provide evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government (LASG) as part of the bail conditions.
The case has been adjourned until Nov. 25. (NAN)
