Evacuation
Damascus, July 31, 2018 (dpa/NAN) Buses reached Syria’s south-western province of Quneitra on Tuesday to evacuate opposition militants to the north, state media and a government source said.
State news agency SANA reported that the buses will carry the militants and their family members from the town of Jubata al-Khashab and its villages to the rebel-held Idlib province.
A security source told dpa that 12 buses have arrived, and 1,000 militants and their relatives are expected to be evacuated to Hama province and then to Idlib.
On Wednesday, Syrian forces entered Quneitra, which borders the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights.
In June, the forces of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, backed by ally Russia, launched a major offensive against rebels in southern Syria.
In recent months, al-Assad’s forces have regained ground from Western-backed rebels as well as from militants, including the Islamic State militia, in different parts of the war-torn country. . (dpa/NAN)
