Ikeja, July 25, 2018 (NAN) A 40-year-old car dealer, Chima Ofurum, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’
Court charged with collecting N850,000 from a man on the pretext of assisting him to buy a car.
He was, however, released on bail in the sum of N200, 000.
Ofurum, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and stealing.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge.
But Police Prosecutor Benson Emuerhi insisted that the accused committed the offences on June 26 at 2.00. p.m. at Coker-Aguda,
Surulere, Lagos.
He said the accused conspired with others still at large to obtain the sum of N850,000 from the complainant, Mr Francis Kenneth,
under the guise of supplying him a car.
“He absconded with the money but was later caught; he promised to refund the money but failed to do so.”
Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat, who gave the ruling, also granted the accused two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties should be gainfully employed with an evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
In addition, one of the sureties should be a relation of the accused.
Sule-Amzat adjourned the case until Oct. 8 for mention. (NAN)
