Court discharges man charged with house breaking, theft

Abuja, July 24, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Tuesday discharged a 25-year-old man, Ifeanyi Okenwa, charged with house breaking and theft.
The judge, Mr Maiwa Inuwa, discharged the defendant following an application by the prosecuting counsel, Mrs Ukagha Ijeoma, that the matter be struck out because the parties had settled.
“Having heard the prosecution’s application to strike out the suit as a result of settlement reached by both parties, the case is hereby struck out.
“The defendant is also discharged of all criminal charges.”
He, however, warned the defendant never to commit such offence again.
The judge, consequently struck out the First Information Report.
Inuwa ordered the defendant to write an undertaking to maintain the peace and never to threaten the complainant’s family any more.
At the resume hearing , the complainant, Chukwuma Ike, informed the court that his parent told him to withdrew the matter and forgive Okenwa,
“I am leaving everything to God, let him judge, they are threatening my boy who is the sole witness,’’ Ike said
Okenwa, of Karmo by transformer, Abuja, was accused of house breaking and stealing home theatre radio set and 42 inches plasma television and N80, 000 cash.
He had pleaded not guilty to the allegations and was granted bail and had always appeared in court for hearing in the case.
Okenwa was docked on a two-count charge of house breaking and theft, contrary to the provisions of Sections 347 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
