Man, 27, in court over alleged break-in

Lagos, July 19, 2018 (NAN) A 27-year-old man, Oluwaloseyi Oni, who allegedly broke into a house to steal, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Oni, who resides at No. 2, Ireayo St., Efon Alaaye, Ekiti State, is being tried for intent to commit felony and damage.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Abiola Adewale, told the court that the accused committed the offences on July 8, at No. 1, Boriowo Close, Unity Estate, Iju, Lagos.
Adewale said that the accused broke the door of the house of the complainant, Mr Olusegun Olukunle, with an iron rod to gain entry to steal his property.
“In the process, the accused damaged the door key, valued at N3,000.
“Oni was caught and beaten by the people in the compound who handed him over to the police,’’ he said.
The offences contravened Sections 311 and 339 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused may be jailed seven years, if found guilty, according to Section 311.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr W.A. Salami, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Aug. 2, for mention. (NAN)
