Lagos, July 17, 2018 (NAN) A 27-year-old barber, Sunday Olabisi, on Tuesday appeared before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, over alleged theft of 800 pieces of planks worth N1million.
Olabisi is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, break-in and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecutor, ASP Fidelis Dike, however, told the court that the accused committed the offences with three other persons still at large, on May 25, at 12:00p.m, at Prince Akande Street, Marshy Hill Estate, Oke-Ira Nla, Ajah Lagos.
He said that the accused broke into a building under renovation and stole the 800 planks, property of Mr Titilope Ramon.
“The developer who is renovating the building came for inspection and saw the accused and his accomplices stealing the planks.
“He raised alarm and the accused was caught while the other escaped,” he said.
The offences contravened Sections 287, 306 (1) and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 stipulates a three-year imprisonment for stealing, while Section 411 prescribes a two-year jail term for conspiracy.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr Omolaja Kazeem, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
He said that one of the sureties should be related to the accused and the other surety should be a civil servant.
Kazeem adjourned the case until July 30 for mention. (NAN)
