Lagos, July 17,2018(NAN) A 40- year-old business man, Augustine Igbinovia, who allegedly obtained 1,500 litres of diesel, valued at about N1.9 million on false pretences, was on Tuesday docked in an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The accused,who resides at 12, Ralex Avenue, Egbeda, Lagos, is being tried for two count-charge of obtaining by false pretences and stealing.
The prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem, told the court that the accused the offences on March 31 at 1, Obamen Close, Ijaiye, a suburb of Lagos.
According to him, the accused obtains1,500 litres, valued at N1, 860, 000 of diesel from one Mr Douglas Obamen on false pretences of paying back after two weeks.
“The accused gave the complainant a cheque and told him to present it at a bank after two weeks.
“It was at the bank that the complainant discovered that it was a dud cheque and since then, all efforts by the complainant to see the accused failed,” he said.
Akeem added that as the accused had not been picking Obamen’s call, he reported the case at the police station and the accused was arrested,’’ the prosecutor said.
The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Jadesola Adeyemi –Ajayi, granted the accused to a bail of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Adeyemi-Ajayi adjourned the case until July 24 for mention. (NAN)
