Sign writer docked for allegedly flogging co-tenant

Lagos, July 17, 2018 (NAN) A 39-year-old sign writer, Kazeem Salami, who allegedly flogged his co-tenant with a cane, on Tuesday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

Salami, who resides at 4, Williams Ladega St., Mushin, Lagos, is being tried for assault and breach of peace.

The prosecutor Insp. Abiola Adewale, told the court that Salami flogged Miss Jumoke Folorunsho on July 8 at his residence, following an argument.

He said that the accused also punched Folorunsho many times, inflicting injuries on her body.

He said the offences contravened Sections 173 and 44 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 173 prescribes a three-year jail term for offenders.

The Magistrate, Mr Salami Adewale, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

He ordered that the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The magistrate adjourned the case until July 28 for mention. (NAN)
