Panda (Nasarawa State) July 13, 2018 (NAN) A traditional ruler in Nasarawa State, Chief Christopher Jatau, has advised to parents and guardians to strive to provide good education for their female wards for the overall development of the country.
Jatau, who is the Uehra Ashea of Kube Chiefdom, gave the advice on Friday in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in his palace in Kube, Panda Development Area of the state.
He said that development of any society depended upon the quality of education that was given to the girl-child.
According to him, education remained the best legacy parents and governments could bequeath any child.
“Parents should send their children, especially females, to school in order to acquire both formal and informal education, because educating a girl-child is like educating the whole nation.
“The importance of girl-child education to the socio-economic development of the society cannot be over-emphasised.
“Hence, the need for parents and communities to send them to school for the overall development of the country.
“Proper education given to the girl-child and promoting girl-child education will help in discouraging child-marriage and social vices among young girls for the betterment of the society, “he said.
Jatau also urged parents to ensure proper upbringing of their children to enable them become useful members of the society and contribute toward the development of the state and the country at large.
The Monarch appealed to the people in his domain to live in peace and tolerate one another, irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliations.
He added that no society could achieve meaningful development without peace and stressed on the need for Nigerians to embrace peace and tolerate one another irrespective of their background.
The royal father said that peace is priceless and non-negotiable, hence the need for Nigerians to embrace it. (NAN)
