Impersonation

Ikeja, July 11, 2018 (NAN) A 24-year-old, Emmanuel Nwosu, who allegedly impersonated a chief executive officer and defrauded some people of some money, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
The accused, a resident of No. 10, Ibadan St., Costain, Iganmu, Lagos, is standing trial before Chief Magistrate Y.O. Aje-Afunwa on a three-count charge of conspiracy, impersonation and fraud.
The accused, according to Police Prosecutor Peter Nwangwu, committed the offences at Bespoke Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, on June 24 at 6.00 p.m.
Nwangwu said the accused impersonated the complainant, Mr Tunde Moshood, as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Miss Global Ambassador Nigeria.
The accused who is into beauty pageant, claimed to be the organizer of Miss Global Ambassador Nigeria.
“The complainant registered Miss Global Nigeria Limited with Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria in 2016.
“The accused started using the name to do business thereby deceiving the complainant’s customers.
“It was alleged that the accused, under the complainant’s business name, organised a beauty pageant in Port Harcourt, Rivers, with all the benefits meant for the complainant going to the accused,” he told the court.
Nwangwu said Nwosu obtained N30,000 from one Grace Jonathan on the pretext of using the money to release one Honda Cross tour car with registration no. MUS 186 FC in police custody.
The offences contravened Sections 314, 380 and 411 of Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The chief magistrate granted the accused a bail of N500, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties must provide evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail condition and adjourned the case until Aug. 7. (NAN)
