Bauchi NGO trains mothers on production of recyclable sanitary pads

Bauchi, July 12,2018(NAN) A Bauchi-based Non Governmental Organization, Fahimta Women and Youth Development Initiative (FAWOYDI), said it had trained 100 women in three Local Government Areas in the state on the production of recyclable  sanitary pads to encourage the observation of personal hygiene.

Mrs Salawudeen Tawakaltu, Coordinator of ‘Girls for Girls’ (G4G) unit of FAWOYDI, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Thursday that beneficiaries of the training were members of ‘Mothers Association’ from Alkaleri, Ganjuwa and Shira Local Government Areas.

She said that other trades which knowledge were imparted on the women, included the making of confectioneries and pomade.

According to her, the training is also aimed at improving the sources of income of mothers, to enable them support their children in obtaining basic education.

The Coordinator said that the trainees, selected from 50 schools participating in the UNICEF and DFID – funded ‘G4G’ programme, were expected to step down the knowledge to other members of the association within their communities.

NAN reports that the ‘G4G’ is an arrangement whereby primary school girls form themselves into groups of 25, through which they meet and discuss issues of their education.

On the other hand,the ‘Mothers Association,’ also initiated by UNICEF and DFID, is an association of mothers of primary school girls, who also consult constantly to deliberate on matters pertaining the welfare of their children, particularly the education of their girls. (NAN)
