Nigerian Army Day Celebration has held in Monguno, Borno State, North East Nigeria, the first time since Boko Haram insurgency ravaged the region.
The event celebrates the heroism and sacrifice of officers and men of the Nigerian Army in particular and the Armed Forces in general.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who declared the event open, assured all Nigerians that the negative history associated with the North East in the past decade would soon be a thing of the past.

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Friday permitted Olisa Metuh, former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party to commence his evidence-in-chief from outside the witness box.
It will be recalled that Metuh, while attempting to enter the dock on May 21 with a walking aid, fell down and was absent from court on May 22, 23 and 24, which were the next adjourned dates.

Jamaica wants to tap from the rich ingenuity in Nigeria’s film industry by collaborating with Nollywood in acting, production and marketing, Mrs Janet Olisa, Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the country has said.
The envoy, with concurrent accreditation to Haiti, Belize and Dominican Republic, said during a visit to the National Film and Video Censors Board that the Nigerian story and culture as showcased through Nollywood films had endeared Jamaican film stakeholders to the country.

Thirty-three pregnant women, detained in a June police raid on an illegal surrogacy agency in Cambodia have been charged with human trafficking, a court official said on Friday.
The 33 women were charged with selling, buying or exchanging a person for cross-border transfer in a country where surrogacy has been banned, and if found guilty could face up to 15 to 20 years in jail.

A Pakistani court on Friday sentenced ousted Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam to 10 years and seven years in jail respectively in a corruption case, a major blow to his party ahead of a general election in July.
The guilty verdict in absentia against Sharif, 68, threatens to end the career of one of Pakistan’s high-profile politicians over the last four decades, a political survivor who served as prime minister on three occasions.

FIFA president Gianni Infantino has invited the Thai boys’ football team trapped in a cave to the World Cup final, as messages of support continued to pour in from top players.
Infantino, who had been anxiously following the rescue operations, said he hoped the Wild Boars Team, which was stranded by rising floodwaters two weeks ago, would be rescued in time to watch the final in Moscow on July 15.
