Ibadan, July 3, 2018 (NAN) The Oyo State Government says no fewer than 120 schools will benefit from its free off-grid solar power initiative.
Dr Bisi Akin-Alabi, the Special Adviser to Gov. Abiola Ajimobi on Education, said this in Ibadan on Tuesday at the ongoing ‘Festival of Learning’ programme organised by the Oyo State Model Education System Intervention(OYOMESI).
The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reports that OYOMESI is an education initiative of the state government aimed at raising competent civil citizens.
Akin-Alabi said the solar power system would be effected in schools where government was presently running digital literacy programme to decentralise their source of power for effectiveness.
“The solar power system to be supplied by a US partner is an effort of the governor aimed at aiding uninterrupted power supply for the digital literacy programme,” the governor’s aide said.
“There is no area or region that can develop beyond the threshold of the education provision it has.
“Oyo State does not have a cosmopolitan nature like Lagos and oil-rich states like those in the Niger Delta. This state is endowed with human intellectual capacity that we would leverage on.
“We won’t relent in our efforts of making the state a hub for producing knowledgeable, competent and civil citizens.
“The festival of learning is a sustainable development prerequisite. We are celebrating learning and want to showcase the value addition that education has added to our society,” she said.
Mrs Ibironke Moses, the Administrator of Community Grammar School, Oluyole, Ibadan, described the programme as appropriate in addressing the various problem in schools.
She urged the schools in the state to embrace the programme and partner OYOMESI to find solutions to the various challenges.
Moses expressed confidence in the programme, saying the modules evolved were practicable and highly useful.
Emmanuel Ikwukeame, a student of Community Grammar School, Oluyole, and Hannah Olufemi of St. Anne’s Senior School, Molete, all in Ibadan, applauded the efforts of government in transforming the education sector.(NAN)
