Abuja, July 3, 2018 (NAN) The Advertising Practitioners Association (APAAC), Abuja chapter on Tuesday solicited partnership with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to reach out to both local and international audience across the country.
Mr Ibrahim Aliyu, the Chairman of the association said this when the association paid a courtesy visit to NAN in Abuja.
Aliyu also solicited the agency`s cooperation and understanding to be APCON compliance.
He explained that the objectives of APCON were to regulate and control the practice of advertising in Nigeria in all aspects and ramifications.
“APCON maintains a strong focus on its vision of promoting responsible and ethical advertising practice, acts as the conscience of society in matters of commercial communications and as a watchdog for consumers.
“It also manages the needs and interests of stakeholders in Nigeria’s advertising industry.
“APCON cooperates with these sectorial associations in regulating the conduct of their member organisations to ensure a socially responsible practice,’’ he said.
Aliyu said that APAAC was drawn from all recognised and registered members of the APCON, who work in both public and private organisation.
He further explained that the potential members of APAAC were practitioners that work in the commercial, marketing, sales, and brand departments.
“The partnership will go a long way to ensure that the goals and objectives of your corporation will be easily achieved in the areas of marketing, promotion of brands and creativity.
“Closely linked here to growing APAAC membership, is that we also want to ensure that every private or public organisation where advertising and marketing are part of their organisational structure should become APCON compliance.
`In doing this, the resultant effect is professionalism. Thus the individual staff and the corporations are better.
“This will encourage the observance of the code of ethics and practice of the advertising profession as outlined in the act setting up APCON,’’ he said.
Aliyu said that APAAC would be hosting 2018 advertising week, scheduled for Nov. 23 to Nov. 29, adding that activities for the programme include Juma`at service, health walk, Church service, stakeholders meeting and award night.
He said that NAN would be provided with a stand to enable it display invaluable services and would be acknowledged in all the public materials and opportunities at the APAAC week programme.
Responding, the Managing Director of NAN, Mr Bayo Onanuga, who was represented by Malam Yusuf Zango, the Editor-In-Chief of the agency said that the partnership was welcomed, and promised that NAN would support the association’s activities.
Onanuga said that the partnership would also help to fight quack journalists and other people who claimed to be professionals in the media industry across the country.
He said that the agency has about 100 subscribers in the country and partners with some foreign media organisations in the dissemination of information.
He said that NAN remained the most authoritative and credible news source on Nigeria, always first with the news, adding that 60 per cent of news stories across the country “are from the agency’’. (NAN)
