Abuja, July 3, 2018 (NAN) The Convener of the forthcoming 12th Abuja International Housing Show said plan has been concluded to partner with the Nigeria Building and Road Research Institute (NBRRI) to promote made-in-Nigeria building materials.

Mr Festus Adebayo, Managing Director, FESADEB Communications Ltd. and the convener stated this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday in Abuja.

Adebayo said there would be a session and pavilion to promote made-in-Nigeria building materials and houses to be championed by NBRRI.

“This would help in achieving affordable housing and change the orientation which Nigerians have on imported goods,’’ he said.

He called on Nigerians to change their orientation and habit patronising imported building materials.

The expert noted that it was looking forward to partner with public and private organisations to boost locally made building materials.

He urged the Federal Government to boost the patronage of locally made building materials to achieve affordable houses.

“Recently, the National Assembly patronised Innoson Ltd. and bought some made-in-Nigeria cars. The government can as well see how we can partner to promote locally made building materials together.

“The government should also give incentives to those who are interested in building houses with locally sourced materials.

According to him, the show should also address the issue of regulation of cement price due to the high price obtainable in the country.

The convener noted that it was also partnering with some companies into alternative housing construction like the affordable earth bricks houses.

He listed the companies to include Hydraform Ltd. Abuja, Ireclay in Akure, Ipile Earth Brick in Kuje, Abuja and Shelter Clay in Minna.

According to him, the brick is made from a mixture of laterite called red earth or clay with small cement.

He noted that the red earth material used in producing the bricks houses did not allow heat to pass into a building.

This, he said, could control the outdoor temperature of the building by making the house to remain cool during hot weather.

“The brick house is cost effective and bullet proof but cement block house always allow heat inside the houses despite its costly nature,’’ he said.

NAN reports that the show which is the largest real estate festival in Africa is expected to hold from July 16 to July 19, 2018 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.

The show which will feature 15,000 local and foreign participants and 250 exhibitors will have its theme as; “Driving Growth and Sustainability in Nigeria Housing and Mortgage Markets-Improving Structures and Policies for Impact.”(NAN)
