Abuja, July 2, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Monday sentenced a 28-year-old man, Abdulrahaman Umar, to four months imprisonment for stealing cable.

The judge, Inuwa Maiwada, however, gave the convict an option to pay N5, 000 fine and advised him to be of good behaviour.

Umar, who resides in Karmo village, was convicted on a count charge of theft.

The convict had admitted committing the offence and begged the court to temper justice with mercy as he did not know what came over him.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Ifeoma Ukagha, had told the court that one Dantani Auta, of same address with the convict, reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station, on May 27.

She said on May 26, the convict was caught, cutting a borehole cable.

Ukagha said the wire was dug from the ground, and during police investigation, he confessed committing the crime and begged for forgiveness.

She said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 287 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
