Lafia, June 28, 2018 (NAN) Aminu Maifata, Chairman of Lafia Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, has promised to boost the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) base of the council.
The Chairman made the promise in Lafia on Thursday when he hosted officials and members of Nasarawa State Chapter of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).
He said that he would devise a means to complement the shortfall from the Federation Account by boosting the council’s IGR to enable him fulfill his obligations to the citizens.
“We will set machinery in motion to block all leakages and make sure revenues get to government coffers and not private pockets,” he said.
He explained that by the time he was able to achieve this set target and the allocation improves, the staff would be paid their full salaries.
He also promised to be open, accountable and prudent in the management of the little resources currently accruing to the council in order to impact on the lives of the people.
Maifata also promised to partner NUJ for proper dissimilation of information on issues related to peace, security and development in the area.
““Our doors will always be opened to any of you who may need information concerning our activities,” he said.
He assured NUJ that he would provide enabling environment for its members to practice by supporting their activities.
Earlier, Doggo Shamma, Nasarawa State NUJ Chairman said the visit was to felicitate with the Chairman on his success at the polls.
He also appealed to the Chairman to support the union towards organising a successful press week which a planning committee had already been set up. (NAN)
