NEMA donates relief materials to IDPs in Gombe State

Balanga (Gombe State), June 23, 2018 (NAN) National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has donated relief materials worth millions of Naira to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe State.

The people were displaced as a result of communal clash in Guyuk Local Government Area of Adamawa.

Donating the materials on Saturday in Gombe, Mrs Amina Ahman, the Head of Operations, NEMA, Gombe State, said the relief was from Federal Government to ameliorate the sufferings of IDPs.

She said that President Muhammadu Buhari felt the peoples’ pains and would ensure that IDPs were well catered for.

She added that “the Federal Government approved these relief materials to support the victims and ameliorate their sufferings. The materials are for the victims only, as directed by Alhaji Mustapha Maihaja, the NEMA Director General.

“We are donating the materials to show President Muhammadu Buhari’s heartfelt sympathy to the people affected by the incident.”

According to Ahman, the Federal Government wants the people to live in peace with one another and be their brother’s keeper as no nation can make meaning progress without peace.

She added that “we commiserate with you and pray that the ugly incident that brought you here would not be witnessed again. The Federal government is working toward ensuring that you are all comfortable in your host communities.”

Mr Jedi Lassa, the Deputy Chairman, Balanga Local Government, thanked the Federal Government for
the gesture.

He said “with this donation, President Muhammadu Buhari has demonstrated his love for the victims.”

Alhaji Abdulhamid Lawan, the Chairman of the IDPs from Guyuk Local Government Area of Adamawa , expressed gratitude to Buhari and NEMA.

He said “I am grateful that NEMA’s Head of Operations in Gombe is co-ordinating the sharing herself to ensure that the items get to the real victims. This will go a long way in assisting the people, especially now that we are in the farming season.

“What we got today is far beyond our expectations. I can tell you that everyone here will go home happy.”

Aishatu Adamu, a mother of four, said that the materials would help them a lot, adding that it was a surprise to have enough materials given to her.

Another beneficiary, Habiba Reuben, said “I think the best way to thank Buhari is to use my
Permanent Voter Card wisely in 2019.

She appealed to the government to ensure that the victims resettled in their communities soonest so they could embark on their farming occupation.

Materials donated are 304 bags of 50kg maize, 40 bags of millet, 1,500 bags of 25 kg rice, 140 bags of 100kg sorghum, 200 pieces of mats, 56 pieces of guinea brocade, 200 pieces of wax print, 170 pieces of mosquito nets and 39 bags of detergent.

Others are 300 spoons, 185 pieces of cups, 225 pieces of buckets, 200 pieces of blankets, 30 kegs each of palm oil and vegetable oil. (NAN)
