TUC advises Nigerians to use religion to promote peace, unity

Lagos, June 14, 2018 (NAN) The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) on Thursday in Lagos advised Nigerians to use the ethos of their religions to promote peace and unity in the country.

The TUC in a statement to commemorate the Muslim Eid-El-Fitri celebration and to mark June 12, said that Nigerians should use their religions to chart a new direction a new direction for Nigeria.

The statement was signed by the President of the TUC, Mr Bobboi Kaigama, and Secretary-General, Mr Musa Lawal-Ozidi.

“We commend Muslims faithful for the important spiritual exercise but they must embrace the lessons of Ramadan which include personal sacrifices, piety and self-denial.

“We implore Nigerians to be patriotic and allow the cardinal principles of their respective religions to reflect in all their dealings.’’

The statement said it was time to look beyond all artificial, social, political and economic divisions, including ethnic and religious differences in the society.

The statement said that people should exhibit oneness and stand strong together to tackle their diverse challenges.

It said further that both June 12 and Eid-El-Fitri determined the future of the country as it was a nation loved by God.

The congress said that it identified with what Chief M.K.O. Abiola stood for and urged the people to fight for something.

“Fight against the growing cases of violence, leading to destruction of lives and property and fight for development of the nation.’’

The statement said the people should fight against money laundering and also fight for the ideals and principles that Abiola stood for. (NAN)
