Scrap dealer in court for allegedly receiving stolen motorcycle valued at N170,000

Lagos, June 14, 2018 (NAN) A 30-year-old scrap dealer, Umar Sulaimon, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly receiving a stolen motorcycle valued at N170,000.

Sulaimon, whose address was not provided, is being tried for receiving a stolen property.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 1 at Railway Line in Mangoro, Lagos.

According to him, the accused received a stolen motorcycle without any registration number valued at N170,000; knowing same to have been stolen.

Eruada said that Sulaimon received the motorcycle from one Idris Mohammed who allegedly stole it from a shop.

The offence contravened Sections 328 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (revised).

The chief magistrate, Mrs M .I. Dan-Oni, admitted the accused to a bail in the sum of N50, 000 with one surety in like sum.

She said that the surety must be a relative of the accused, gainfully employed and should also show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

Dan-Oni adjourned the case until July 9 for mention. (NAN)
