Lagos, June 6, 2018 (NAN) The Managing Director, GlobeTech Remedial Ltd., Mr Ola Oresanya, has called for the establishment of an effective recovery and recycling chain to beat plastic pollution in the country.

Oresanya made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Wednesday to mark the 2018 World Environment Day (WED).

The theme for WED 2018 is “Beat Plastic Pollution’’.

According to him, this has become necessary with only about nine per cent of current production volume of plastic waste being recycled.

“Government at all levels should note economic potential in plastic waste recycling business and develop same.

“Circular economic principle should be harnessed maximally for sustainable development of the recycling industry.

“There should also be development in social instruments to secure investment in plastic recycling industry,’’ he said.

Oresanya said that to the present challenges posed by plastic waste should be developed to help provide employment for youths.

He said that youths should be trained and empowered with marine harvesters for collection of plastic floaters on the shorelines.

According to him, this will help to reduce marine pollution and also engender effective flood control mechanism.

The managing director said that the use of plastic flakes could be intergrated into the local construction industry. (NAN)
