Council boss urges residents to embrace farming

Garaku (Nasarawa) June 5, 2015 (NAN) The Chairman of Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa, Mr. Saidu Kurki, has advised youths of the area and other Nigerians to embrace farming in order to boost the nation’s food security.
Kurki gave the advice on Tuesday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Garku, Kokona local government area of the state.
He assured the residents of the area of his administration’s commitment to agriculture and the provision of other social services in order to improve their standard of living.
Kurki said for the country to achieve food sufficiency, youths and other Nigerians must embrace farming, as agriculture was the major source of livelihood of every family and nation.
“Agriculture is one of the ways of generating revenue; its importance to the development of any society cannot be over-emphasised.
“No society can live comfortably without agriculture, apart from provision of food, it also provides employment opportunities, generates revenue and boosts the socio-economic development of the country,” he said.
According to him, if youths and other Nigerians go back to farm, it will not only reduce over-dependence on oil but fight poverty and unemployment.
He added that it would also reduce youths’ restiveness and other social vices as well as boost food production in the country.
Kurki promised to operate an open door policy in order to move the council and the state forward.
He called on the people of the area and other Nigerians to pray and support President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov.Tanko Al-Makura to enable them succeed in the task ahead of them.
The council boss advised Nigerians to be law abiding, respect constituted authorities and to live in peace and tolerate one another irrespective of ethnic, religious and political affiliation.
He said no nation could achieve meaningful progress and development in an atmosphere of rancour, hence the need for people to live in peace with one another.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) conducted state Local Government election on May 26 and Gov. Tanko Al-Makura inaugurated the 13 newly elected Local Government Chairmen on May 27. (NAN)
