Unity

Abuja, June 2, 2018 (NAN) Mrs Hawnatu Zwarbun, the Patron of the Plateau Women Development Association, Abuja branch, has tasked women to be united, if they must achieve meaningful goals.
Zwarbun, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja, on Saturday, said it was only the unity of women in the pursuit of common goals that could propel progress and development.
The women leader, a retired Administrative Secretary of the National Council of Women Society (NCWS), also stressed the need for women to know their rights.
“Knowing your rights does not mean; rub shoulders with the men, but the ability to unfold your potential.
“It is very good for women to know their rights; by so doing, they will unite and work harmoniously towards the achievement of the goals, which will move the society forward.
“This in turn, would help the men to organise themselves and attain higher goals, which would improve on the life of the people,” she said.
Zwarbun urged members of the association and other women to stop bickering and get serious with themselves.
She said that a caretaker committee had organised a free and fair election on May 12, which produced Mrs Dallo Damarsis, as the president of the association.
Others, according to her, are Mrs Mary Sambo; Vice President, Mrs Katherine Alkali; Secretary General, Mrs Perry Enoch; Assistant Secretary General, Mrs Lami Ayuba; Treasurer, Mrs Rose Shalsuk; Financial Secretary.
“The Director of Socials, Mrs Mary Nature and Legal Adviser, Mrs Barbara Maigari were also elected”.
Zwarbun said that the election of these officials was the handiwork of this committee, which was set up to reposition the association.
According to her, the idea of the association is borne out of the desire to see that women have a platform, where they can help one another when the need arises.
She disclosed that the association began in 2001 with only five members; and with one branch, adding that it now had 21 sub-branches.
Zwarbun, therefore, urged the larger society to embrace unity, which would help in nation building.
Also, in a chat with NAN, Mrs Dallo Damarsis, the new president of the association, said that by engaging women and girls in skill acquisition programmes, unity could also be achieved.
She said that when there was a platform for uniting women, it would be easier to achieve goals, which would help people to live a meaningful and purposeful life.
“We, women, have a lot to do; and through a platform like this association, we can showcase great abilities of our women.
“Women should be able to bring our children closer to our culture; how we are, our dressing habit, our kind of food,” she added. (NAN)
