Gombe , June 1, 2018 (NAN) Mr Napoleon Bulus, the Head of Nursing Services, Gombe State Specialist Hospital, said over 90 per cent of health workers resumed work on Friday in different hospitals across the state.
Bulus made the disclosure in Gombe on Friday during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He said that health workers in the state had complied with the directive from the national body of Joint Health Sector Unions’ (JOHESU) after the suspension of the 43-day strike.
According to him, health workers are all over different health centres in the state rendering services to patients.
‘‘As we are all aware the strike has been called off and we are happy to be back to work as directed by the National Executive Council of JOHESU on Thursday.
‘‘Today alone we recorded over 90 per cent compliance, as you can see the nurses, laboratory workers and the cleaners are all on ground to render services to Nigerians.
‘‘As at this morning, all the units were open, the wards are occupied and the laboratories are fully operational. Right now there is an ongoing operation at the theatre.
‘‘Everything is set, patients can come to the hospitals; we are rendering full-scale services at any given time. I urge Nigerians to feel free to come to the hospital,’’ he said.
Mr Arnold Abel, the Medical Director, Gombe State Specialist Hospital, said work had resumed 100 per cent and that there was no cause for alarm as patients could visit the hospital for medical services.
He emphasised that JOHESU members were part of the health team who are contributing to the running of health centres in the state.
He noted that their resumption would help in rendering of quality service to patients.
A patient, Umar Mohammed, a primary five pupil of Usman Memorial Primary School, Gombe, confirmed to NAN that the nurses attended to him this morning as at the time he was admitted.
NAN recalls that JOHESU had on May 31, suspended the six-week strike at the end of its National Executive Council meeting with Assembly of Healthcare Professional Association in Abuja. (NAN)
