Owerri (Imo) June 1, 2018 (NAN) The Imo state Head of Service (HoS), Mr Callistus Ekenze, has urged civil servants in the state to strictly adhere to civil service rules and policies of government.
Ekenze made the call in Owerri on Friday during a meeting with the management staff of his office.
According to him, the civil service is the engine room of government and civil servants cannot be a part of government, and at the same time, be against the system.
He said that the Gov. Rochas Okorocha-led administration had been magnanimous in approving civil servants’ promotions regularly, paying salaries and providing running costs for the entire service.
He urged Permanent Secretaries, Directors and Heads of Departments in the state to complement government’s efforts toward developing the state by enforcing civil service rules.
The head of service expressed fears over possible system collapse if the workers failed to carry out their responsibilities.
“The service will collapse if we do not play our roles as and when due”, he advised.
Ekenze also pledged government’s commitment towards effectively meeting the needs and aspirations of civil servants in the state.
In her response, the Permanent Secretary, Establishments, Mrs Pat Ekennia, thanked the head of service for his handy advice and for creating room for the interactive session.
Ekennia emphasised the need for the management staff to live aboard to be able to enforce the civil service rules.
She however urged them to arm themselves with copies of the Public Service Rules (PSR) and be bold in enforcing them when necessary. (NAN)
