Court remands man, 26, in prison over alleged break-in, motorcycle theft

Lagos, May 31, 2018 (NAN) An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 26-year-old trader, Musa Mathias, in Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos, for allegedly sneaked into a house at night and stole a motorcycle.

The Magistrate, Mrs A. I. Abina, who gave the ruling, said the accused should remain behind bars until the next adjournment.

Mathias, a resident of No. 5, Jinadu St., Agege, a Lagos suburb, is standing trial on a charge of stealing.

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Sgt. Ishola Samuel, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 3 at No. 152, Dopemu Road, Agege, Lagos.

He alleged that the accused stole a motorcycle marked LAR 494 QC valued at N85,000 belonging to the complainant, Mr Philip Adaji, from his compound where it was parked.

According to him, Mathias was apprehended by members of a vigilance group in the area as he could not give a satisfactory account of how he came about the motorcycle.

The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused, on conviction, may be jailed for three years.

The case was adjourned until June 4. (NAN)
