Ikeja, May 30, 2018 (NAN) A 24-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Ojone Amos, was on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly absconding with his employer’s motorcycle valued at N150,000.
Amos, who lives in Badagry, Lagos State, is facing a charge of stealing.
According to Police Prosecutor Benson Emuerhi, the accused committed the offence sometime in January 2016 at No. 19, Majekodunmi St., Sogunle, near Oshodi, Lagos.
He alleged that the complainant, Mr Babatunde Stephen, gave his motorcycle to the accused in 2016 to be used for commercial purposes and asked him to be delivering N3,000 to him daily.
Emuerhi said the accused bolted with the motorcycle to an unknown location while efforts to reach him on his cell phone or retrieve the motorcycle from him were unsuccessful.
He said the accused was later arrested by the police.
The offence contravened Section 280 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section stipulates a three-year imprisonment for offenders.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule-Amzat, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until July 26.(NAN)
