Bauchi, May 29, 2018 (NAN) The Dean, School of General Studies, Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, Malam Hassan Hassan has described President Mohammadu Buhari’s as a hero for effectively”blocking the conduit pipes and looting outlets”
‎
Hassan told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Tuesday that but that heroic act of the president, the story would have been different today.
‎
“The president has cleansed  and redirected the system for efficiency and economic growth, invested massive resources, as well as  collected and returned monies from looters, ” he said
‎
According to him, the Buhari administration has opened the eyes of Nigerians to the true nature of devaluation, destruction and destabilisation of the country.
He explained that the celebration of Democracy Day offered Nigerians the opportunity to reflect on the achievements, successes and challenges of the nation, and therefore urged the people to be wary of enemies of progress.
‎
The Dean said such people would try to hide under the guise of democracy to engage in campaign of calumny against the government for the sole purpose of pulling the country back to the disastrous era of looting and corruption.
“They would want to come back to power in order to take the nation back to the past era of looting, corruption, and insurgency ,” he said.
Meanwhile, another lecturer with the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, Dr Dalhatu Abubakar,  has faulted the manner democracy is being implemented in the country, adding that the attempt by President Buhari to effect amends was the major cause of the opposition being witnessed.
“It is not the democracy that works, it is actually the pillars that hold it; the pillars are the leaders of integrity that actually want democracy to work.

“If we look at our brand of democracy, it has been entrenched to make sure that some people at the corridors of power always have their ways.

“However, the kind of pillars we have now has been trying hard to change that, so, instead of democracy to be controlling the pillars, the pillars are trying to control democracy.

“This is a positive development as there would be no more impunity in the country, and with this kind of democratic dispensation, we will surely progress.

“If we are to appraise this particular administration, you will realize that most of our expectations as Nigerians, are coming to fruition,”  said Abubakar, who teaches Sociology at the polytechnic.(NAN)
