Lagos, May 26, 2018 (NAN) An online delivery platform, Speedie, on Saturday in Lagos trained some dispatch riders in courier companies on safety and security during businesses.

The Operations Manager of Speedie, Ms Toyin Agboluaje, said at the one-day training on ”Safety and Security in Courier Services” that the riders needed to build knowledge on safety and security in courier business.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the training was conducted by an official of the Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC).

The participants were educated on ways to tackle challenges they could encounter while working.

NAN reports that Speedie leverages on technology to provide online delivery services using a mobile app and a web portal to connect consumers.

“The essence of the seminar is to build knowledge on safety and security in courier service.

“This will enable them to be able to tackle whatever security and safety challenges that they may face while operating their businesses,” she said.

Agboluaje listed some of the challenges faced by courier operators as inadequate training and dwindling investment.

Mr Abiodun Adereti, Deputy Route Commander, FRSC, who conducted the training, urged the riders to prioritise  road safety.

“Anyone that uses the road should be mindful that his family is somewhere, and should be conscious of what he does on the road,” he said.

He advised the riders to obey traffic rules and regulations, see themselves as the only sane persons on the roads and wear crash helmets to reduce accidents and injuries. (NAN)
