Abuja, May 26, 2018 (NAN) The Youth Tourism Development Organisation (YTDO) has called on the Federal Government to carry the youth along in the development of the tourism and culture sectors.

Mr Emmanuel Okon, the president of TYDO, who made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Abuja, stressed the need to give the youth sense of belonging.

Okon said over the years, a lot had been said about the development of the sectors with nothing to show for it.

“We have not got there because the youths are not actually integrated in tourism and culture promotions and development.

“They need to be abreast with what the sector is all about and get them involved so that the country can generate more revenue and employment from the sector.

“If the government harness the potentials of the sector and involve the youths in its development, it will go a long way in making the country better and the citizens happier,’’ he said.

Okon said the recent talk show on echoing the tourism and culture sectors in Nigeria for sustainable development was to inform the youths about the benefit of tourism to them and the country at large.

He called for more commitment on the part of the government to the development of the sector, saying it was one way to achieve greatness and generate employment.

“Government should carry the youths and the private sector along in the development of the sector.

“Government cannot do it alone as the youths have the numerical strength to make it happen,’’ he said. (NAN)
