Lagos, May 25, 2018 (NAN) Silas Achinze, a digital music promoter, on Friday said that musicians should take advantage of the internet to expand their reach to their consumers globally.

Achinze told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the new digital era had brought about a social revolution.

He said that musicians should realise that the positive influence of the internet on the society would always outweigh its negative impact.

“The internet has changed the traditional ways the music industry operated some years ago.

“This change is evident in how artistes record songs to how labels promote and push their artistes.

Achinze said that despite the negatives that came along with this development, the positives were enormous and would always be beneficial to the business than its odds.

He said that the internet had broken the chains of intermediaries and given artistes the power to realise their dreams.

“With the internet, artistes have become solely responsible for their work and become a bit independent of intermediaries.

“It has given them the platforms to showcase their talents and reduced their complaints of not having the support that they will need to succeed.

“Though, the abuse of the internet has heightened piracy, it has become proficient in ways of putting an artiste in the face of his or her consumers.

“Record labels and artistes must take advantage of the internet to popularize their acts,’’ he said.

Achinze added that the digital era had empowered consumers.

He said that with just few clicks on their mobiles, they could now browse and access whichever songs they wanted to listen to.
