Abuja, May 24, 2018 (NAN) Association of Telecommunications Professionals of Nigeria (APTN) has frowned at the recent directive by CBN imposing 0.005 per cent levy on all electronic transactions.

Mr Adede Williams, the President of APTN said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday

Williams was reacting to CBN’s directive that all banks should collect 0.005 per cent levy on all electronic transactions into a National Cyber Security Fund account domiciled in the CBN.

He said the policy by the CBN to levy 0.005 per cent was not favourable because the telecom industry had too many levies already.

“We have been talking about taxation all the while, that we have too much taxation in the telecom industry, so bringing this one again; it is the subscribers that will pay the price.

“It should not be a one sided thing, the government, the telecom industry and the subscribers should agree before such a levy should take place,’’ he said.

Williams said that the operators could increase their tariff due to the levy and the subscribers would put the blame on them.

“At the end of the day, it will be as if the operators do not want to listen to the subscribers and but this is a policy that cannot really work.’’

Willams said that the policy would not favour the masses, adding that before taking such decisions everybody must be carried along, including the subscribers. (NAN)
