Offa (Kwara), May 24, 2018 (NAN) The Rector, Federal Polytechnic, (FEDPOFFA) Offa, Kwara, Dr Lateef Olatunji, has expressed displeasure over students’ apathy towards the use of libraries to enhance their studies.

Olatunji expressed his opinion while handing over some textbooks as donations to some libraries in Offa, Offa Local Government Area of Kwara on Thursday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the beneficiaries of the Rector’s gesture are Offa Club 80 library, a community-based library in Offa, as well as FEDPOFFA International Secondary School Library, Offa.

Olatunji said the gesture was informed by the need to improve on the students overall performance through research and documentation.

He said the role of libraries in equipping students with the needed background information on their academic pursuit could not be over emphasised.

“If you go to libraries today, you can only find very few students studying, especially in this part of the world.

“It grieves my heart, so I decided to contribute my own quota to improving our reading habit in Nigeria and Africa as a whole,” he said.

The rector, who has been appointed as a member of the Governing Council of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) by the Federal Government, also gave out bundles of rulers for the students’ libraries.

In his remark, Dr Razak Quadri, the FEDPOFFA Librarian, praised the rector for his quest for quality education and research development in the country.

He expressed optimism that the books would be made easily available to students and other readers. (NAN)
