Abuja, May 23, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, on Wednesday sentenced one Abdullahi Mohammed, and Safiyanu Idris, to seven months imprisonment each for joint act and causing grievous hurt.

The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, however, gave the convicts an option to pay N15, 000 fine each.

The convicts admitted committing the offences and begged the court to temper justice with mercy as they did not know what came over them.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Ifeoma Ukagha, had told the court that one Friday James, of Utako, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station on May 18.

She said that the complainant and the convicts on that same date fought and the complainant reported the matter at the police station and the matter was settled.

Ukagha said when they left the station; the convicts used a cutlass to inflict injury on the complainant’s face.

He was later rushed to Wuse General Hospital, Abuja, for treatment.

During police investigation, they confessed to the crime and begged for forgiveness.

She said the offences contravened the provisions of Sections 79 and 247 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
