Abuja, May 23, 2018 (NAN) A cell phone thief, 27-year-old security guard, Idowomeburu Romeo, was on Wednesday sentenced to
five months imprisonment on the orders of a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja.

Romeo had pleaded guilty to stealing a cell phone worth N35, 000.

The judge, Mr Abubakar Sadiq, said since Romeo had pleaded guilty to the charge, the court had no option than to sentence him
accordingly.

Sadiq, however, gave the convict a N10, 000 fine and also ordered that the recovered phone should be returned to the owner.

Earlier, Police Prosecutor Ijeoma Okagha informed the court that Romeo, a security guard at Ava Storic Estate on Airport Road, Abuja,
committed the offence on May 11.

Okagha said a man, whose name was simply given as Isaac, also a security guard attached to the estate, reported the case at Utako
Police Station, Abuja.

He said the accused about 2.10 p.m. went into Isaac’s security post and stole his phone valued at N35, 000.

Okagha added that the accused was later caught with the phone and also made a confessional statement during police investigation.

The offence contravened Section 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
