Labourer docked for alleged theft of N2m construction materials

Abuja, May 22, 2018 (NAN) A labourer, Michael Bawa, on Tuesday appeared in a Karmo Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for alleged theft of construction materials worth N2million.
Bawa, who resides at Mpape village, Abuja, had pleaded not guilty to a count charge of theft.
The prosecutor, Ifeoma Ukagha, told the court that Daniel Igbinoba, of Idu Yard Industrial Area, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on May 16.
Ukagha said the complainant reported that the defendant was employed as a casual worker in Zeenab Food Ltd., Idu, FCT.
Ukagha said the defendant stole some construction materials worth N2million.
He said that during police investigation, the defendant admitted that he stole some iron rods from the factory and sold them for N700,000 to an unknown person.
She said the offence contravened Section 289 of the Penal Code.
The judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, granted bail to the defendant in the sum of N20, 000, with one surety in like sum.
Sadiq said that the surety must present utility bill, and adjourned the case until July 5, for hearing. (NAN)
