Abuja, May 21, 2018 (NAN) The Female Bikers Initiative have urged women to make their health a priority, especially their cancer status.

Team coordinator of the Initiative, Jeminat Olumegbon told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday that by taking charge of their health status, women can fight cancer better.

“We are encouraging women in Nigeria to be Breast and cervical cancer aware, so they see the need to carry out regular breast self-examination.

“Also, clinical breast examination and routine cervical screening (Pap Smear Test) can never be overemphasized,” she said.

Olumegbon added that the initiative discovered that lack of knowledge, financial incapacity and fear of stigma held some women back from finding out their health status.

She stated that The Female Bikers Initiative aims to help women deal with the issues that hindered them from being cancer free by educating the society better.

According to Olumagbon, the initiative looks forward to screening about 5000 women and take strategic rides round Lagos to raise more awareness on women’s health.

She explained further that the initiative was to focus on helping women with 1st phase of cryotherapy treatment which aims at killing cancerous cells at stage 0.

According to Olumegbon, initiative is a subsidiary of D’Angels Motorcycle club, which is an all-female Motorcycle Club, duly registered in Nigeria, who come together annually to sensitize the public on women health issues.

“FBI decided to use the publicity it was getting as an all female cyclist club to help other women get quality health benefits.

NAN reports that in 2017, The Female Bikers joined forces with Timi Dakolo, Richard Mofe-Damifo (RMD), Yinka Davis and Sam Dede to create awareness on cancer.

This was followed by the successful screening of 500 women in Lagos, alongside two successful mastectomy surgeries and post care. (NAN)
