Abuja, May 18, 2018 (NAN) The Keke Operators Positive Initiative (KOPI), an association of tricycle operators says it will soon acquire device to track operators who commit any form of crime while operating in the FCT.

The association was, therefore, seeking partnership of FCT Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) in registering commercial motorcycle and tricycle operators in the territory.

Mr Kalu Emetu, the Public Relations Officer of VIO, in a statement on Friday said that KOPI’s President, Mr Shetima Ibrahim made this known when he visited the VIO.

“The device will be used to locate the whereabouts of any operator who commits any form of crime or traffic offence,” he said.

Ibrahim appealed that the organisation should be allowed to register tricycle and motorcycle operators before being registered with the VIO.

He said that already, the organisation was partnering with a Chinese firm to acquire the device and train operators on how to assemble and repair motorcycle and tricycle.

“The group’s plan is to make tricycle and motorcycle business not only a source of revenue but also to touch lives,’’ he said.

Responding, a director of the agency, Alhaji Wadata Bodinga, who was represented  by the Head of the VIO Operations, Mr Dele Yaro, assured that the directorate would assist the association to realise its “good objectives’’.

Bodinga, however, stressed that the data of tricycle and motorcycle operators would be captured before they obtain the driver’s permit before registration.

He warned the operators against overloading, stressing that they should only operate within restricted areas as the directorate would not condone violation. (NAN)
