Man, 30, faces kidnap charge

Lagos, May 17, 2018(NAN) A 30-year-old man, Tanimu Umaru, was on Thursday brought before an Ebute Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly kidnapping one  Fatai Erinfolami and demanding N1milliom as ransom.

Umaru, whose address was not provided, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, kidnap and demanding ransom for the release of a victim.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Omisakin, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Feb. 20, at about 4.00 p.m., along Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Omisakin alleged that the accused kidnapped Erinfolamo, whisked him to an unknown destination and contacted his family members for a ransom.

She also said that the police were able to apprehend the accused through his phone calls.

The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 2 and 3 of the Anti-Kidnapping Prohibition Law of Lagos State, 2017.

In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs A.O. Komolafe, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Komolafe said the sureties should be gainfully employed and should show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned until June 13 for mention. (NAN)
