PVCs

Lagos, May 11, 2018 (NAN) The Lagos State chapter of the Democratic Alternative (DA), on Friday, urged registered voters in the state to collect their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to enable them elect leaders of their choice.
The state chairman of the party, Mr Archibong Uduak, gave this advice while addressing party members at a meeting in Lagos.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the executive members of “Star Alliance”, a coalition of 24 opposition parties in the state, were also present in the meeting.
Uduak said having 1.4 million unclaimed PVCs in the state was outrageously high, pointing out that if uncollected, it could affect democratic choice in the next election.
“As the general elections approach, my advice to our party members and all residents, is to go and collect their PVCs.
“There is no way we can participate in a process to determine our leaders if we registered and our PVCs are lying out there unclaimed.
“We should go to the relevant offices to claim these cards, so that we can vote and determine our future,” he said.
Uduak also urged residents, who had yet to register as voters to do so in order to participate in the forthcoming electoral process.
He urged party members to mobilise people in their communities to collect their PVCs and register as voters.
Uduak said that the DA joined the opposition alliance to help drive change in the leadership of the state.
According to him, the alliance will provide a credible alternative to give the state what it deserves.
“Lagos is not where it should be; that is why an alternative is required to give residents a better option.
“We are in the Star Alliance because we want to be part of that change that Lagos really needs,” he said.
The Chairman of the Star Alliance, Mr Kola Ajayi, said the alliance executive was present to ascertain the readiness of the DA to fly with the coalition.
He said that the visit was part of the ongoing visit to all the political parties under the alliance.
“We are happy with what we have seen here; we are convinced that the party is ready to move with our train to bring change to Lagos,” he said. (NAN)
