Lagos, May 10, 2018 (NAN) Participants at a two-day taekwondo coaches and referees seminar organised by PANAMAI in Lagos, have commended the body for engaging officials regularly on the new developments in the sport.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 30 coaches and referees participated in the training which end on Thursday at Top Angel School in Surulere.
An international referee, Victoria Bedeteri, told NAN that the programme had helped the officials who were not financially buoyant to attend international courses to get an insight of the latest trends in the sport.
“Ferguson Oluigbo, the Chief Instructor of PANAMAAI has always taken it upon himself to attend international workshops and imparting whatever knowledge he got to officials back home.
“Many of us cannot attend some of these workshops outside the country because of paucity of funds, so we appreciate his efforts,’’ she said.
Ashade Dawood, a coach, said that the seminar had afforded him the opportunity to learn the new amendments in taekwondo rules.
“I am happy to be part of this two-day impactful programme put together by PANAMAI and the turnout is really impressive.
“This only implies that taekwondoists are always ready to learn new things in the sport,’’ he said.
Also, Mary Stanley, a referee, told NAN that the training was timely, noting that the country was far behind in developments in the sport.
“This seminar is timely, we are behind in taekwondo but having regular programmes like this will help us to catch up with the rest of the world,’’ the 2007 All Africa Games bronze medalist said.
Emmanuel Banjo, a coach, said it was his first time to attend such a programme.
Banjo promised to make use of the seminar to groom young talent in the sport. (NAN)
