Court remands minor, one other over alleged IBEDC cable theft

Ile-Ife (Osun), May 8, 2018 (NAN) An Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Tuesday remanded one Toheeb Ologbenla, 15, and Safiu Kazeem, 18, in prison custody, over alleged cable theft.

Magistrate Muhibah Olatunji remanded the accused persons in prison custody and adjourned the case until May 15, for presentation of facts and sentencing of Toheeb.

At the arraignment of the defendants, Kazeem pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing, while Ologbenla pleaded guilty to the offences preferred against him.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the two teenagers had no legal representation at their trial.

The Prosecutor, Insp Emmanuel Abdullahi, had told the court that the duo committed the offences on May 7, 2018 around 4:00 a.m. at Aderemi Road, Ile-Ife.

Abdullahi said that the accused stole an electric cable whose value had yet to be ascertained, property of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc (IBEDC).

According to him, the offences contravened Sections 383, 390 and 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002. (NAN)
