Katsina, May 8, 2018 (NAN) The Katsina State Joint Disabled Association has urged the state government to establish leprosy management centre for effective control of the disease in the area.

Malam Yau Zakka, Chairman of the association, made the call when members of the association paid courtesy visit on Gov. Aminu Masari, on Tuesday in Katsina.

He said that members of the association were finding it difficult to access treatment, since the old centre was converted to National Obstetric Fistula Centre, popularly known as “Babbar-ruga”, in 2013.

He said the establishment of the centre would ensure effective management of leprosy across Katsina.

On politics, Zakka promised that members of the association would support the re-election bids of President Muhammadu Buhari and Gov. Aminu Masari in 2019 general elections.

He, however, urged the state government to include members of the association in interim the committee of the local governments.

Responding, Masari promised to look into their requests but urged them not to take begging as a licence to earn a living.

Masari said that the state government would continue to improve the living condition of people in the state, including those suffering from leprosy. (NAN)
