Pension
By Taiye Baiyerohi
Lagos, May, 4, 2018 (NAN) Mr Lanre Awoseyin, President, Nigeria Hotel Association, on Friday urged hoteliers across the country to implement pension and insurance schemes for hotel workers to gain their loyalty and commitment to work.
Awoseyin told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that this would boost hotel workers’ morale at work and encourage professionalism.
He said that the association and the National Pension Commission (PENCOM) had sensitisation programme in about 10 states last year on the essence of placing workers on pension and insurance schemes.
He noted that the outcome was positive while some had already began the processes of ensuring it was implemented in their hotels.
According to him, this would ensure greater output as they are assured of their pension and insurance schemes.
He said that hoteliers should be prepared to make long-term investments on their staff to keep them motivated at work.
“We call on hotel owners to make sure pension and insurance schemes are implemented for workers in their hotels so that they can earn their loyalty and absolute commitment to work.
“Hoteliers stand to gain more over time because they will not have to employ several times in the year, it is when workers are not treated well that you see them resigning.
“The association and PENCOM have gone to over 10 states to sensitise the hoteliers on the importance of the schemes and we hope to continue soon
“We are only waiting for PENCOM to approve our proposal as soon as the budget is passed. We will then visit Bauchi state and then the South-West.
“We have gone to Kano, Kaduna, Jigawa, Rivers, Benue and Plateau states. We are going to more state because of the positive responses received.
“However, some of these states have started the process of implement pension and insurance schemes for their staff,” he said. (NAN)
