Ikeja, May 3, 2018 (NAN) A 38-year-old driver, Mohammed Yusuf, who allegedly drove recklessly and hit a stationery bus valued at N2 million was on Thursday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
Yusuf, who resides at 10, Karagumma St., Ogun State, is facing a two-count charge bordering on reckless driving.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Raji Akeem, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 25 along Lagos/ Ibadan express way.
Akeem said the accused was driving beyond the speed limit when he hit the bus.
“Thank God nobody was inside the bus, it could have been a vital accident as the bus was really damaged, “he said.
Akeem said the accused was about running away from the scene, but he was apprehended by some passersby who handed him over to the police.
The offences contravened Sections 19 and 22 of the Road Traffic Law of Lagos State, 2012.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Jadesola Adeyemi-Ajayi, granted the accused bail in the sum of N200, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
She said the sureties should show evidence of tax payments to Lagos State Government.
Adeyemi- Ajayi adjourned the case until May 16 for mention. (NAN)
