Abuja, May 3, 2018 (NAN) A Karmo Grade 1 Area Court in Abuja on Thursday sentenced a labourer, Ibrahim Magaji, to nine months imprisonment for stealing a television.
The Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, said that the sentence would serve as deterrent to others.
Magaji, who resides at Antwan Hausawa, Karmo in Abuja, was convicted on a two-count charge of break in and theft.
The convict, who pleaded guilty to the offences, pleaded with court to temper justice with mercy, promising to be of good behaviour.
The Prosecutor, Mr Zannan Dalhatu, had told the court that one Uju Ilo of Idu village in Karmo, reported the matter at the Karmo Police Station on April 28.
He said that on the same date at about 4 p.m, the convict unlawfully entered Ilo’s room and stole one LG television set, valued at N35, 000.
Dalhatu said that during police investigation the convict confessed to the crime.
According to him, the offences contravene the provisions of Sections 343 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
