Lafia, May 2, 2018 (NAN) The Nasarawa State Government has begun the training of 40 newly employed special education teachers on classroom management before their deployment to schools.
Prof. Jonathan Ayuba, the State Commissioner for Special Education, Science and Technology, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia on Wednesday that the training would be for one week.
Ayuba said that the teachers would be trained on the adopted special education curriculum for the teaching of physically challenged pupils.
He explained that the state was among the first in the country to adopt the new curriculum for the education of people with disabilities.
“The training which will last for one week focuses on building capacities for effective service delivery.
“Most of those recruited are just fresh from schools; there is a difference between what they were taught in school and the experience in class.
“These schools are purely for the people with disabilities and they also have pupils with multiple disabilities hence the need for the training,” the commissioner added.
According to him, the teachers will also be exposed to the use of state of the art equipment installed in the new school.
Ayuba said that the ministry would give the teachers the best training in line with global best practice.
NAN reports that the ministry had recently employed 40 teachers into the newly established Comprehensive Special School, Lafia. (NAN)
