Ikeja, Feb. 5, 2017 (NAN) Three men — Emmanuel Igwe, Emmanuel Chukwuemeka and Amos Destiny– who were charged with possessing illegal firearms and charms, were on Friday in Lagos granted a N1.5 million bail.
An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court which gave the ruling, said the accused should provide two sureties each in addition to the N500, 000 bail granted each of them as part of the bail condition.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Y.O. Aje-Afunwa, said the sureties should also show evidence of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The accused — Igwe, 22; Chukwuemeka, 30; and Destiny, 25 — who all reside at Lakowe area of Lekki in Ajah, Lagos, are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, possession of firearms, charms and belonging to an unlawful society.
They all pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp. Peter Nwangwu, told the court that that the accused committed the offences on April 8 at 2.30 p.m. at Sangotedo Bus Stop, Lagos-Lekki-Epe Expressway, Lagos.
He said a team of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) caught the accused with one locally made pistol, three live cartridges and some charms.
“During a stop-and-search by the squad, the items were recovered from the accused.”
The offences contravened Sections 42, 133, 330 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 330 provides a three-year jail term for offenders, while Section 133 stipulates 14 years for being in possession of charms.
The case was adjourned until May 25 for trial. (NAN)
